Raw probes

In most cases, a raw probe (referred to as “Materialien” by Friedrich Meister) is available for each sampling event, and the two terms can be used interchangeably. About half of the roughly 2,100 raw probes originate from Switzerland, while the other half come from abroad. Each vial was assigned a number (“Kennzeichnung”). Detailed information about the sampling events were usually not recorded on the raw probe vials, but in the material catalogs (“Materialverzeichnisse”) D594 and D595, as well in the site directories (“Standortverzeichnisse) 17 and 18. Occasionnally, these notebooks however lack information about the sampling events and further details must be retrieved from the analyses booklets (“Analysenhefte”). In such cases, one pertinent booklet was recorded in the books section, while others were listed in the remarks section.
